How to Import a Bank Statement into NetSuite

Bring bank activity into NetSuite and confirm the import succeeded before reviewing matches.

Start with the right file

Use the bank's transaction data export for the account and date range you intend to review. Keep the original download so you can trace the imported activity back to its source.

This guide covers a manual file upload. Before uploading, check whether the same activity has already arrived through a bank feed or an earlier import.

Choose the import method

If your account has a configured financial institution and format profile, use that setup. Otherwise, NetSuite offers default parsers for supported bank files. A parser reads the file and interprets its transaction data.

A general CSV export is not automatically suitable. For a default-parser CSV import, use NetSuite's template and required specifications.

Upload and import

  1. Go to Transactions > Bank > Upload File. You can also use the Upload File link from Match Bank Data.
  2. Click Choose File and select the bank data file.
  3. Choose the configured Financial Institution import method, or Import with default parser.
  4. For a default-parser import, select the receiving NetSuite bank or credit card account. Select character encoding if the field appears.
  5. Click Import, then Track your status.

Review Banking Import History

Check the result in Banking Import History and expand the entry to inspect the details. Resolve reported errors before proceeding. An uploaded file alone is not proof of a successful import.

Then open Match Bank Data for the intended account and compare the imported activity with your source file. Look for unexpected dates, missing activity, or apparent duplicates before accepting matches.

If something does not look right

  • Unexpected account: Review the account selection or the configured format profile mappings.
  • Rejected CSV: Compare the file with the template for the selected parser. Check the required columns and formatting.
  • Unexpected date range: Check the bank export settings and the downloaded file.
  • Uncertain import result: Inspect the history entry before uploading the same file again.

What comes next

Importing gives you bank activity to review. It does not complete the reconciliation. Next, review the automatic matches and manually resolve the remaining items, then reconcile the account statement.
