Banking / Guide 5: Manual path
Use your bank statement to clear recorded transactions, then complete the account statement reconciliation.
By Jack Ring
You can use Match Bank Data and Reconcile Account Statement without uploading bank transactions. In this workflow, you compare NetSuite's records with the statement yourself and mark the supported transactions as cleared.
Not importing a file does not mean reconciling without evidence. Have the bank statement, its closing date and balance, and the supporting detail for deposits and payments available.
Go to Transactions > Bank > Bank Matching and Reconciliation > Match Bank Data. Older menus may show Match Bank Data directly under Bank. Select the bank or credit card account.
If the account does not appear, have your administrator check your permissions and the account's Use Match Bank Data and Reconcile Account Statement setting.
Open Transactions to Match, called To Be Matched on older screens. Use filters and sorting to review the NetSuite account transactions against the statement.
Select the NetSuite transactions supported by the statement. Check their amounts, references, and dates. Do not select imported bank lines when you intend to clear account transactions without matching.
A transaction recorded before month end may still be outstanding. For example, a check entered September 28 but not reflected by the bank until October should remain outstanding in the September reconciliation.
If the statement includes a fee or interest receipt that has not been recorded, create the appropriate transaction. Available actions can include Add Charge, Add Deposit, and Add Journal Entry. Use a full transaction form when necessary for required fields or your company's accounting process.
Before adding an entry, search for the existing transaction and confirm the account and classifications. Recording the same receipt twice creates another problem rather than resolving the first.
For grouped customer receipts, see Bank Deposits and Undeposited Funds.
In NetSuite 2026.2, use Clear and Submit. Clearing automatically submits those transactions for reconciliation.
Earlier screens use Clear, then Review and Submit. Review the cleared items before submitting. Use bulk selection only after confirming every selected transaction belongs in your review.
Clearing is not the same as reconciling. It makes the transactions available for the statement reconciliation.
On the Review tab of Reconcile Account Statement, inspect submitted cleared transactions. Use the cleared transaction details and Undo Clear, or the available undo selection action, to correct a mistake.
On older screens, pending cleared transactions can also be reviewed before submission. Keep unresolved old transactions on your investigation list; age alone does not justify clearing them.
Follow the Reconcile Account Statement guide for the detailed closing steps, inclusion rules, and reconciliation history review.
Retain the bank statement and your explanations for outstanding or corrected items. Confirm that the completed statement appears in reconciliation history. Those records help you support the close and carry unresolved items into the next period.
If you later adopt imported bank data, follow the Import a Bank Statement and Match Bank Data guides for that workflow.
